I have always been a winter person. I love snow and skiing is more than a passion for me, its a way to keeping myself connected to my childhood memories. But after so many weeks without seeing the sun, and completely covered up in layers, cycling everyday under the rain…I had started to crave good weather. I started realizing how much I missed the warm summer days and those amazing spring vibes that push people to spend more time out of home. That need of buying flowers, opening windows at home, spending hours drinking coffee on terrace with a friend and packing those dark thick sweaters at the end of the closet in order to make space for new gear with bright tones.
It may sound vain to be happy about new clothing but to be honest, there so much more behind this idea than a simple fashionista drama. I once read a phrase that resumes my philosophy and why I love working in this fashion business “Fashion is saying who you are without having to speak”. Every morning I stand up, open my closet and dress myself according to my mood. Some days I feel sexier, others I just want to feel cozy and hide behind a chunky knit, others I feel like I’m ready for the daily battle and can overcome whatever comes in my way, and some I just don’t feel like its my day and prefer to wear neutral colors that would not make me stand out. At the end, its all about self-expression.
A true lesson I have learnt throughout the years is that trends come and go but your own style will be what will make you unique. There are so many girls out there wearing white sneakers, bomber jackets and ripped jeans… That the true challenge nowadays is to actually be yourself. To find a style in which you wont feel disguised but truly comfortable in your own skin. We get so many messages through social media, magazines and society in general that things can get to be confusing. It is your right not to follow the mass, to stop pursuing this ideal of being like the girl on the magazine and being truly yourself. Expressing your mood, your creativity, your uniqueness and, why not, a bit of your soul, through your gear. Today’s look from Esprit is my visit card and my way of welcoming this 2016 Spring. I find their new campaign really inspiring, as it brings the idea of celebrating individualism to the forefront with #ImPerfect, a message that aims to empower the individual to love all those little imperfections and different ways of being, qualities which render each of us perfect in our own right. I don’t know if it has to do with the first Spring sun rays and the good vibes that come along, but as I was walking back home listening to my iPod yesterday I had this tingling sensation of moving to the beat and forgetting the world for a moment. Letting go of all inhibitions and pressure and being my true self for a moment. Perfect in my own way…with all my strengths and weaknesses.
